BANANA SHIRE COUNCIL LEADS QUEENSLAND INTO NATIONAL MOVEMENT FOR CIRCULAR SOLAR

Banana Shire Council is the first Queensland local government to pledge support to Circular PV Alliance after joining the organisation as an Associate Member. Banana Shire has a number of large scale renewable energy projects developed or in the pipeline within its region and would like to see the local community benefit from the energy transition in as many ways possible. This is an exciting milestone for CPVA, Banana Shire and the national movement towards a more sustainable solar energy sector and the emerging solar circular economy.

SUMMIT ACTION PLAN LAUNCHED

The Action Plan arising from the Energy + Circularity Summit held in Dubbo earlier this year was officially launched at the RDA Orana Outlook Forum, The Action Plan provides a record of the information, ideas and feedback from Summit attendees and presenters on the day, on how to capture circular economy opportunities for the regional energy and resource recovery sectors. It also lists critical Actions and projects that RDA Orana and CPVA will lead delivery of, to achieve the outcomes and opportunities identified from the Summit. Regular updates on progress will be provided back to the community and industry. Stay tuned on this exciting work!

A ROUND OF APPLAUSE FOR CPVA CERTIFIED AT WASTE EXPO 2025

When it comes to impact, people want to see and hear about real results. At Waste Expo today, CPVA CEO Megan Jones announced that nearly one million solar panels will be recycled as a result of ACEN Australia's Stubbo solar project achieving CPVA Certified status. The response from the audience - a spontaneous round of applause - clearly shows the importance and critical timing of CPVA Certified as the roll out of solar energy continues to gain pace across the country.

CIRCULAR ECONOMY TAKES CENTRE STAGE AT ALL ENERGY

Circular PV Alliance returned to All Energy in 2024, hosting the second CPVA Social Event and also CEO Megan Jones speaking at the largest clean energy event in the southern hemisphere. This year the social event was co-hosted with the Smart Energy Council in recognition of the organisation's combined efforts on PV reuse. Special guest speaker Sheena Watt MP addressed attendees and Climate Capital CEP Shane Bartel was on hand to help 'soft' launch the first CPVA Certified project - Bell Bay Solar Farm. A fantastic, fun event that will be back again in 2025.
CPVA CERTIFIED LAUNCHES AT TARONGA HATCH LIVE PITCH

Circular PV Alliance attended the final Live Pitch event as the conclusion to the Tarionga HATCH Accelerator Program, with CPVA Certified unveiled to the audience. The event and program as a whole, has been a huge success and has provided invaluable assistance to get CPVA Certified market ready. The world's first circularity certification for solar energy projects will be ready to go shortly, stay tuned for more details.

PV LAB, CPVA, ANU'S PV PANEL RE-USE REPORT LAUNCHED

Led by PV Lab, CPVA and ANU collaborated to research and report on the current PV panel re-use and re-furbishment market around the world. Funded by the ACT Government's Renewable Energy Innovation Fund (REIF) the report explores what other countries are doing to promote PV panel reuse and what potential refurbished PV panels may play in a new market.

Solar & Storage Live is the world’s largest series of solar and storage trade shows. The Australian edition is coming to Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre on 1-2 May 2024! It’s Australia’s only event focused exclusively on solar, battery storage and EV charging for residential, commercial-industrial, and large-scale utility installations.
The conference and expo are free-to-attend and being held on 1-2 May 2024 at Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre.

CPVA is excited to be part of this team working on the “Reduce and Reuse - Keeping PV panels out of waste streams” project. The team also includes Rabin Basnet, PhD, The Australian National University and Dow.

Stats show that the report has been downloaded from locations on every continent (excluding Antarctica...for the moment...we're working on it), with translations into Spanish and Danish so far. On 21 February 2023 the AIMS Press - Energy online journal published an article titled "Product stewardship considerations for solar photovoltaic panels". The paper was led by Professor Peter Majewski of the University of South Australia, with specialist input from CPVA Co-Founder Megan Jones, Pablo Dias of Solarcycle and Rong Deng from the University of NSW. This is an industry leading paper with significant insight regarding the future of the solar energy sector's approach to product stewardship and a circular economy. SCHOOL STUDENTS LEARN ABOUT CPVA'S SOLAR 'E-WASTE' SOLUTIONS

CPVA Co-Founder Megan Jones visited the Central West Leadership Academy in Dubbo this week as part of the school's curriculum exploring e-waste and the circular economy. Megan shared the work CPVA is doing to create a solution for solar panels when they are removed and discarded from their initial installation. The students agree that we need to be doing better than simply throwing them out and if they work then we need to use them for as long as possible. The students asked lots of intriguing questions and enjoyed seeing a solar panel up close. It is critical to keep engaging with our young people as our future leaders and demonstrating the positive outcomes we can all be part of creating.

CPVA INVITED AS DISCUSSION LEADER TO IMPACT X SUMMIT 2022

Megan Jones attended the Impact X Summit in Sydney where she was invited as a Discussion Leader for the Energy break-out stream. The Summit brought together a diverse array of industry thinkers, movers and shakers all working towards nature positive solutions to the pressing environmental conditions we are facing. The Summit enabled exciting networking opportunities, with Megan meet in-person fellow positive impact sector colleagues Katharine Hole (CEO of Australian Battery Recycling Initiative), Joanna Cantwell (Solar Buddy) and Kado Muir (First Nations impact entrepreneur). CPVA PRESENTS AT WASTE EXPO '22

Steve Owens delivered an engaging and highly relevant presentation at the Waste Expo in 2022. Titled "Demonstrating quality and value in 'pre-loved' PV panels", Steve outlined the case supporting solar panel reuse, including information about the test results from the CPVA pilot project that proved the concept that solar panel can (and should) be reused. Early insights from CPVA's collaboration with the University of Queensland to undertake used panel market research for Energy Consumers Australia were also shared. In addition to his presentation, Steve also chaired the much-anticipated Circular Economy panel discussion on the day. Fellow CPVA Co-Founder and Director Laura Jones was also in attendance at the adjoining All Energy expo. There is growing interest in the work that CPVA is undertaking and we look forward to sharing more insights as we progress.

On Wednesday 12th October 2022, CPVA Co-Founder and Director Megan Jones was awarded the Creswell Prize at the Electric Energy Society of Australia (EESA) EECON Conference in Brisbane.

The Creswell Prize is awarded to the best presentation paper by a non-member of EESA. As part of the prize, Megan will be attending the New Zealand EEA Conference in Christchurch in 2023 to present the paper, titled "Circularity for solar energy - the future of energy through solar panel reuse”.
According to EESA, "The judges were captivated by the contents of the presentation as it is a component of the net zero future that is not actively discussed."
